Pickleball (Adult)

 
Pickleball is a unique paddle sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. It is a low impact sport that can be played at any pace.

Recreational Pickleball: This is a recreational program that will run 3 days a week (Tuesday , Wednesday, Thursday)  1:30 to 3:30 pm. Starts Tuesday Sept 8, 2020. This program is for players who have some experience with the game and feel comfortable with their ability to play. Players can reserve a spot each day by calling the Centre after 9:00 am (call after 9 am   Tuesday for Tuesday afternoon, etc.).
Court is limited to 10 players. Once the 10 spots have been filled the court will be closed to others. This program is for participants to get together with others to enjoy a fun afternoon of Pickleball. Fee is $3.00 or a punch card for 10 visits are available for $20.00.  Age: Adult 
 
 
Beginner Pickleball:  This is an instructional drop-in for the first time player as well as someone who is a novice and requires more instruction on the rules/ and more confidence and experience with the game. The program will run for 4 weeks Wednesday and Friday Sept 23 - Oct 16, 12:15-1:15 pm. Group size will be limited to eight. The drop-in will be facilitated by a experienced Pickleball player. Please call 902-463-9276 and reserve a spot.  Fee $3.00. Punch card of 10 punches will be available for $20.00.

 Yoga - with mini stability balls (All levels)
 
This class provides a well rounded yoga practice that focuses on poses that build strength and flexibility in a mindful way. The additional use of a mini exercise ball in the practice further enhances posture, strength and core stability. Options are provided so that everyone can practice in a manner that honours their body. The class includes a relaxing guided Savasana. This class is appropriate for beginners and those with yoga experience. Please bring a yoga mat, water and a blanket if desired.

 Bellyfit  
 
 Bellyfit is the world's only standardized, holistic fusion of Fitness, Bellydance and Yoga exclusively for women of all ages and fitness levels. Please wear your favourite athletic shoes and workout clothing, and bring a water bottle and a yoga mat.

 LeBARRE  


Using the LeBert Equalizers as your own personal barre. LeBarre combines balance, agility and resistance training with Pilates for a cardio-based barre fitness workout. LeBarre is a barefoot fitness class-be prepared to work in your bare feet or grippy "yoga" socks. Please bring a water bottle and a yoga mat.

 Top Hats and Roses 50+ Fitness 
 
Looking for a great fitness program for seniors? This program is low impact in nature and an excellent venue for those who have a balance or coordination issue. There are specific exercises for anyone suffering from arthritis. Each day weights are used to work on strength and endurance. Chairs will be provided for participants who find it difficult for some types of floor exercises to ensure they still benefit from the exercise. Every class ends with stretching, flexibility and relaxation exercises for the entire body. Exercise is done to music from the 50's to 80's! Fun is had by all and everyone is welcome. All participants should bring their own mats.
 
Program runs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:00 am-12:00 pm. Participants must call each Monday, Wednesday and Friday to register for class 902-463-9276, only 30 spots available each day.  Daily fee $5.00 or a punch card for 10 classes for $40.00. Masks must be work when first arriving in the Gym.  Once participants are in their chosen spots masks can be removed.  Looking for a great fitness program for seniors? Nia Dance 
 
 Nia (Neuromuscular Integrative Action) combines natural movements from three dance arts (Modern, Jazz, Duncan), three martial arts (Aikido, Tai Chi, Taekwondo) and three healing arts (Yoga, Feldenkrais, Alexander technique). It is a holistic barefoot movement practice that is guided by 'sensing inward' and 'feeling good'. Nia can help improve flexibility, mobility, agility, strength, and stability as well as encourage posture, grace, balance, coordination, cardiovascular and cognitive function, and self-confidence.

 Yoga 

You will explore the practice of yoga in a way specially designed for beginners of all shapes and sizes in a welcoming atmosphere. Please bring a yoga mat, water , and blanket.

Mask must be worn for the duration of the class.

Carpet Bowling 

We are very excited to again be offering Carpet Bowling this fall session. The NWCC Carpet Bowling Club will run every Tuesday from 10:30-12:30 pm. There is a maximum of 8 allowed as only one carpet will be used. Participants must call the Centre the morning of wanting to play to register your name. Call the Centre after 9:00 am at 902-463-9276. . 

This sport is for ages 50+. Carpet Bowling offers great social and physical activity.The sport has been a popular past-time for more than 100 years across the globe. Carpet Bowling involves playing on carpets that are 30 feet long and six feet wide and is a variation of lawn bowling.  The sport is low impact and can even be performed if you need to stay sitting. The most important part is being able to bend and throw the ball. 

To become part of this sport a North Woodside Community Centre membership must be purchased for $5.00 for the year and each Tuesday players pay a $2 drop in fee that helps pay for the carpets and the space.

To purchase your membership and to sign up you can call or drop into the Centre.
